Two people have been killed, and more than a dozen people have been injured following a serious car accident that took place recently near Lake Pleasant, Arizona.
The Car Accident
Three cars and a total of 15 people were involved in the accident that occurred when, according to police, one car sped down the road in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, and collided with a third car. The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m., allegedly following a bonfire. The crash occurred just past the intersection of Lake Pleasant Parkway and Old Carefree Highway in Peoria. Reportedly, some of the passengers involved were not wearing seatbelts. It’s also believed that several of them were riding in the bed of a pickup truck that was involved in the crash. All of the victims are in their late teens or early twenties.
Cause of Car Accident
Police are investigating if drugs and alcohol were involved in the accident. A 20-year-old crash victim says the driver of the truck he had been riding in was drunk at the time had swerved and hit the other vehicles. No final conclusions have been drawn, and police investigators are still working to identify the cause.

According to Peoria police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto, Raul Contreras, 21, and Eric Cuellar Mendoza, 19, are the two victims killed in the car accident. According to Peoria police Lt. Steve Hadley, this car accident is one of the more serious ones he has seen ever in his 24 years of service.
