One person was recently killed in a two-vehicle car accident in Gilbert, Arizona.
The Car Accident
According to Mesa Fire Capt. Forrest Smith, crews from both the Mesa and Gilbert fire departments responded to the scene of the car accident near 32nd Street and Baseline Road. According to Gilbert Police Sgt. Bill Balafas, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling south on Driftwood when it was struck by a pickup truck that had been traveling west along Baseline Road. The driver of the Jeep died at the scene. He was identified as a 50-year-old male. The Jeep’s passenger, the victim’s wife, was also transported to a local hospital. She is listed in serious condition, according to Balafas. The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as a woman in her 20s. Her 22-month-old child was a passenger in the car. They were taken to local hospitals as a precaution.
Cause of the Car Accident
The force of the collision caused one of the vehicles to hit and damage a nearby building. The cause of the collision is still being investigated. It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol, or other forms of impairment (such as texting, or other forms of distracted driving) have been ruled out.
