A 24 year-old Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University student is in the hospital after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting the pavement while traveling north on Willow Creek Road in Prescott.
Prescott Police Department Lt. Ken Morley said, “The cause of the wreck is currently under investigation,” and that “Speed and impairment were not factors. There was no debris or animals in the road and no other vehicles or people were involved.
Morley added, “Wind could have been a factor, especially on a smaller bike like that.”
Not Wearing Helmet
Reportedly, the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment.
“Right now he is in stable condition, with pretty extensive face and head injuries,” said Prescott Police Officer Dan Smith.
The Importance of Wearing a Helmet**
**
Considering current statistics that have found brain injury to be one of the most dominant causes of motorcycle fatalities makes you realize that wearing a motorcycle helmet is one of the most important safety considerations you can take. The principal purpose of a motorcycle helmet is to absorb the impact of collision to the brain in case of an accident.
Realizing just how important it is to wear them can make wearing a helmet easier to accept. But still many current riders have mental blocks and choose not to wear them. But would you rather be alive or look cool?**

What to Look For When Purchasing a Helmet
Material of the helmet - lightweight, tough and crack resistant fibers and grades of plastic are all aspects to consider. Impact resistance can be gauged from shape and size.
Comfort - Any helmet you choose should feel soft at all points of contact. The helmet should fit snugly.
Full Face v Half Face – Full-face helmets are the safest helmets. Half face helmets offer good protection while at the same time offer a fuller view of the road. Visors that cover the face and protect the eyes from wind and dust should be tough, clear and scratch proof.
