Deadly Hit and Run Truck Accident in Arizona
Police are searching for the driver of a truck involved in a hit and run that killed a woman on Interstate 10 in Arizona.
The Hit and Run Accident
According to investigators, a passenger and driver of a 1965 Chevy pickup truck were ejected through the passenger side door when the truck attempted to enter I-10 in the eastbound lanes from Ray Road. The truck approached traffic, slowed for a disabled motorist, and then swerved left to avoid the slower traffic. Onlookers described that the pickup continued and hit the center divider wall. Then, according to Bart Graves with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, an unidentified truck struck the ejected female passenger and immediately left the area of the accident.
Victims of the Hit and Run
Celia Ester Owens, 44, of Maricopa, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 1965 pickup has been identified as Randall Wayne Owens, 54, also of Maricopa. He was admitted to Chandler Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.
Hit and Run Accident Being Treated as a Homicide
DPS Officer Carrick Cook said investigators are treating this as a homicide. The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a truck that will have obvious signs of a crash. DPS is still attempting to track down any and all information relating to the accident. According to Arizona driving laws, a driver who is involved in an accident resulting in death or serious physical injury as defined in section 13-105 and who fails to stop or to comply with the requirements of section 28-663 is guilty of a class 3 felony. This sentence can range from probation up to five years or more in prison.
